The sky had turned orange.

Teal'c stared upward. The color of orange seemed to carry both warmth and coolness within it. The warmth felt different than the heat that they had endured, but the coolness soothed any of the aches they had gained on this journey.

The contradiction puzzled Teal'c. Yet, somehow the contradiction felt right.

His gaze found those that had been tortured by Jonas Hanson. Their eyes were open, wide and hopeful. He knew that today they were finally free.

Yet, while the humans around him expressed emotions of joy and amazement, Teal'c felt nothing but a detached sense of peace. Once, he had looked upon such acts as magic from the gods. As a young Jaffa, he had gazed with wonder at the many feats that the Goa'uld performed before his eyes. But now – now was different. Though he had known for some time that the Goa'uld were nothing but false gods, before today he had not been afforded the opportunity to stand back and gaze upon their dazzlements from afar.

Today it was not a Goa'uld that performed such an act of awe and wonder. It had been his new friends among the Tau'ri, one of the simple humans that toiled on this world, and himself.

Teal'c brought his gaze back to the sky and smiled.

I realized about halfway through "Camelot" that Teal'c is my favourite character. I think it's because his character development is the only one of all them that feels...natural...and fun. He was awesome in season one and he's still awesome now. I love how he didn't get culture and now he sort of gets culture and he's all great.

Er...to relate that to the fic: I loved Teal'c at the beginning. I love his changes. This ficlet captured that perfectly. Well done.

So far, Teal'c has been the least affected by TPTB's wacky OOC hammer.

They started with Sam and then moved to Jack. Now, they've become taken with Daniel. Teal'c has managed to slip under the radar.

I still love Sam, Daniel, and Jack. I always will. And I am loyal to Daniel for the sake of loyalty. But they're really really been messed with over the years.

Teal'c, bless him, is still moving along. I want him to stay that way.

Ah, Teal'c. Possibly the most consistant character, and smoothest character arc in the series. Nice to revisit an earlier epiphany moment.

Not only is Teal'c maybe the most compelling character this season, but he is the one character that has pretty much escaped the character deconstruction we've seen with the others.

This little piece wasn't perfect by any means, but it was fun to write. Thanks for reading.

I heartily agree. Teal'c has been the most consistent character. Even as he's changed over the years, he's still been Teal'c. Everyone else has been messed with to the point where at times their characters are barely recognizable with their canonical origins.

Who can remember the last time Daniel was interested in archaelogy?

Lovely little glimpse into Teal'c's perspective. I've often wondered what he was thinking as he stood quietly in the background and have been playing with the idea of writing something along these lines myself.
