Whoops. Never responded to this feedback. I have been such a spaceshot, I swear.

Interesting world--what was the shack made of, if the acid rain was good for the living trees but ate through the wood there? Was it wood from another world, or just that once the wood was dead, it couldn't last?

See, now what business do you have finding plot holes in my stories? ;)

When I was writing it, I envisoned it was some kind of other wood not made from the trees there. It wouldn't have had the same durable aspect as wood from the trees in the forest.

As to why no one built the shack out the wood on the planet? I can't answer that one. Maybe the population was so stupid it killed itself off by incompetence.
