Yeah, I know what you mean. I went through that myself, and decided it just wasn't worth it for me any more. I don't mind a challenge - as a matter of fact, deadlines are good for me, I tend to put things off otherwise. But what I have decided to do is just concentrate on prompt-type challenges and avoid writing for a specific person's requests.
I don't know if this is what you stress over, but I worry too much about what the recipient will think, if I'm getting their requests right, if they'll be happy with what I do or be disappointed. Very, very stressful. And I seem to have a real problem trying to figure out a way to turn their requests into something I can get inspired by. And for me, inspiration is paramount.
