You know, back when I was first watching, I didn't like Jack much through most of S1 (he grew on me) but you are right that he was the glue for the team in a lot of ways.
He has that history with Daniel, the relationship with Sam as you said, and I think Teal'c transferred himself into thinking he was O'Neill's first prime.
With Sam and Teal'c - I think they didn't know what to make of each other. I think Sam isn't like any woman Teal'c has known and he's never had female colleague, especially on the field of battle - and isn't sure what to make of her. Meanwhile, Sam is behind the team in having to adjust to meeting aliens and traveling to other planets and takes a while to figure Teal'c out too. I do love how they got to grow.
